The brief was to design and produce a custom made, bespoke desk organiser for a pencil and graphite artist. For the project, functionality led the design. It was essential to understand the workflow of the client and cater the design to not only support this, but allow it to flow naturally. The desk organiser needed to contain every tool used by the artist, storing these away when not in use and then displaying them in an organised outlay when in use.

The desk organiser has been designed to successfully exist in two states : stored-away and in-use.

The box simply becomes an object. Its minimal and sleek form allows it to exist harmoniously in any context.

stored-away

The lid and base can be laid adjacent to one another creating a flat lay ‘tray’. The zig-zag surface allows for organised customisation of the layout. Each component and tool can be arranged however the artists wishes, with the zig-zag form ensuring they all remain parallel.

in-use

The primary purpose of the desk organiser is to organise.

Each internal storage component has been custom designed to effectively and efficiently store the specific tools used by the artist.

Each component can work independent of one another, but then come together into one side of the tray allowing for the lid to be placed on the box with all components  sefely stored inside.
